Haircut

I’m just a girl with a new haircut.

I did it. I buzzed my hair this weekend. Technically, J buzzed it – he did his, too – but I initiated it.

My hair was really, really long. I hate getting my hair cut. They often do it wrong and I hate making small talk. I know many people cannot relate to this, they think of haircuts as a spa day, but this is why my hair had gotten so long. Once I found out I had cancer, there was no way I was cutting my hair until I had to.

Before

My hair made it through 3+ weeks of chemo. After my first treatment, every time I brushed my hair I feared I would find clumps of hair. It didn’t happen like that, though.

It was tricky figuring out if my hair was falling out. As J can attest, I always shed. It gets in everything. On Friday there was more hair in the drain. My ponytail felt thinner. By Saturday, strands were coming out when I ran my fingers through my hair. It was time.

There were some tears. I know it’s just hair, but it was a big moment in this journey. I now look like I have cancer. I know that hair loss can be caused by a lot of things – but cancer is the first thing people think of.

I’ve lived with my new, short hair for a few days and I must say, it’s growing on me (har har).

Short hair is so easy. I knew this in theory, but in practice it’s a whole new world. It used to take me about 30 minutes to dry my long hair. It never looked quite how I wanted. Now, I wash and dry and I’m done. It’s amazing. And it’s so soft!

Will I do it again after my hair grows back? Probably not. But do I love taking a shower and then just going to bed without having to blow dry? Yes – it’s amazing and in summertime to boot.

Bad Haircuts

I’ve had some really bad haircuts over the years. This was not the first time I shed tears over a haircut.

This is not a Bad Haircut

As my hair continues to thin, I reserve the right to change my mind and hate my hair. Right now, though, I’m going to enjoy the comfort and ease of my new look and enjoy it while it’s here.

Recap

Other than the haircut, there’s not much to note this week. I’m starting to feel more tired and I’m going to have to learn to live with that. I wish there were more hours in the day, but don’t we all? Work is good. Family is good. I can deal with tired.

Thanks for all of your thoughts, texts, comments, and positive vibes!
